Class of 2009

I am currently enrolled at the University of Oklahoma working towards my degree in International Security Studies. I am also a member of the United States Naval Reserve as a Midshipman at the NROTC unit here.  I am a member of both the NROTC Sail and Color Guard teams, and I recently received the Ancient and Accepted Rite of Scottish Freemasonry Award. When I graduate and receive my commission, I plan to become a Surface Warfare Officer (person who drives, commands and operates ships). After that, who knows where the Navy will take me!

Excel helped me to develop spiritually. Everything I did at Excel centered on my relationship with God and prepared me to live a life that REQUIRED Him. Now that I am away at a college that is not Christ-centered, I am grateful for my time at Excel and the ways it transformed me. I guess you could describe my experience at Excel as "life-changing."

I am a junior at UNR, studying community health science in hopes of becoming a physical therapist. I am in the sorority Delta Gamma and have held a few positions within the chapter, offering me a number of leadership opportunities. This past year I was elected to be a vice president on the Panhellenic Council, which oversees all the sororities on campus. Coming from a small school, I never would have imagined making the dean’s list in college, but I did. While going to school, I work part-time in a restaurant.

I didn’t fully appreciate attending Excel Christian until I started at the University of Nevada. It was within my first year that I noticed how well Excel prepared me for life after high school. Not only do I feel that the school helped me lay a solid foundation around my faith, but it taught me how to be a successful student and a strong leader. Christian Studies, a class every student takes at Excel, allowed me to grow spiritually while teaching the different aspects of the religion. The leadership class wasn’t just about planning events and aiding the school, it taught me how to be an influential leader to those around me.

After graduating from Excel I completed two years at the University of Nevada, Reno, studying journalism. I joined the sorority Delta Gamma and was elected Vice President of Communications. I was also the worship team drummer for InterVarsity, the largest Christian club on campus. The next year I attended the Horizon School of Ministry and continued to play drums on Horizon Church's worship team. That summer I got married to Shane Cross, and we moved to our first duty station at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. I am now working as a shift supervisor at Starbucks in Anchorage, and I am planning on finishing my degree in journalism with a focus on advertising. My husband and I are expecting our first baby in November!

Excel definitely prepared me academically for the challenges of college. I felt so founded in the fundamentals. Probably what I loved most about Excel, though, was the tight-knit environment of the students and the teachers. My teachers took the time to push me to bigger things than I expected of myself and were there to encourage me in my personal life. Now one of my teachers is my mother-in-law!

I graduated from the Northern Nevada Regional Fire Academy in December of 2005, with plans to become a fire fighter.  I soon learned that those jobs were tough to come by, and that military experience would boost my chances of being hired. I joined the Army in August of 2007 and was shipped off to Georgia for training.  After I finished Airborne school, I was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Ft. Richardson, Alaska, where I am currently stationed.

I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, with Valor, for bravery in the face of the enemy in Afghanistan.  On June 17, 2009, I married Sarah Hinen in a beach wedding on Kauai, while on R&R leave from Afghanistan. We make our home in Anchorage, and are expecting our first child in November. My next goal is to be accepted into the Warrant Officer Program and fly helicopters for the Army.

I graduated from Ralston School of Massage in 2008 and am now a licensed Massage Therapist at Massage Envy.
I'm happy to say that I'm in the top 5 in most-requested therapist and number 1 in deep tissue massage. Because I'm still into fitness, my long-term goal is to train to become a fitness instructor. I love travel and hope to do lots of it.

I live with 3 of the best roommates I could ever ask for! I'm very blessed to have them in my life and everyone else I have surrounded myself with! My other long-term goal: get married and start a family!

I am living in Redding, California, and helping out with the first-year program at Bethel School of Supernatural ministry, counseling girls. I have completed all 3 years at Bethel and will hopefully be getting my pastor's license soon. I hope to continue counseling people as I allow God to direct my path. I also hope to travel to different countries in Europe and other places as well, releasing the love that God has given me. I am truly excited to see what God is going to be doing in my life! During school at Bethel, I have been on many mission trips, including Mexico 4 times, Canada, Texas, Oregon, and a few places in California. We saw hundreds, if not thousands, of people healed, saved and delivered.

I'm a senior at UNR studying International Business with a focus in management, and I have an internship at the Nevada Commission on Economic Development - Division on Global Trade and Investment. I'm part of the business honors society and studied abroad for a year. When I graduate I'll either get a job, get my MBA, or go to law school. I probably would not have considered majoring in business or studying abroad if not for Mrs. Krupa!

I attended the Horizon School of Ministry and graduated the program on May 16, 2010. I am happily married to my wonderful husband Joshua of almost two years, and we are currently on staff as the Youth Pastors for Horizon Christian Church, pursuing a life of ministry. It has always been my heart to see the youth of this city changed, and through ministries throughout our city and organizations like Excel, I am seeing it happen! It is a rollercoaster of an adventure and I am loving every minute of it!

Excel Christian School came into my life at just the right time! I had been in the public school system since Kindergarten and was an excellent student in all areas...except math. Entering public high school in my freshman year, my family and teachers began to notice my swift decline in math grades and feared that I would not graduate high school. For a student making all "A's" in every other class, this was devastating news. Along with my math troubles, I noticed that my relationship with God was wavering and my current school environment was not helping me focus on my faith. It was during this time that my family and I made the decision to switch to Excel Christian School. Needless to say---I flourished! I received the attention I needed in my math classes. I was finally understanding the problems written on the board! It was in Excel's environment that I not only began to "excel" educationally, but I grew greatly in my love for Jesus Christ. It was at Excel that my journey and heart for ministry truly began. I am so grateful for my time at Excel and all the wonderful ways this school has impacted my life forever!

I'm a full-time student at Texas Christian University pursuing a double degree in Advertising/Public Relations and Spanish with a minor in International Business (also considering Music Production or Vocal Performance: Music has always been a part of me, so I have been blessed with exciting opportunities on campus and at church. God is doing good things!)

I want to intern at Google, Facebook, NewsCorp, or even Capitol Records. After getting a taste of social media and its flow of things--and hopefully falling in love with a specific area in that field--I want to let God take control of my career.

Excel taught me that it's always quality over quantity. Our school was extremely small compared to other shools, but I was able to get the best academic experience. Our teaches weren't strangers, they knew us individually and personally. The staff and faculty at Excel would go an extra mile for any student and that really helped me do so well in my studies. The small environment provided sooo many positive and beneficial things that other schools could never offer. So even though Excel might look like a small, simple school, I think it offers greater things than any other school out there. This whole concept of quality over quantity has helped me look at life in a different perspective. I find myself constantly appreciating even the smallest things in life. So thank you, Excel!

I am an international student from Vietnam, and I graduated from Excel Christian High School. Right now I’m a college student at West Valley College in Saratoga, California. My major is Biology Science and my long-term goal is working with patients as either a doctor or nurse, or working in the field of psychology. I’m still trying to decide my final field. I love Excel Christian High School because I learned a lot, made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun in my classes. Sometimes I just want to go back and study at Excel Christian High School. It's an amazing school!

I attended the Horizon School of Ministry and graduated the program on May 16, 2010. Now I plan on interning to become a worship pastor and a music producer. My biggest passions in life are music and acting. I spend most of my time playing and writing music. God has given me an undeniable gift to play music, and I enjoy every day that I get to use my talent for His glory! I will eventually open a martial arts studio as well. I've mastered five different styles of martial arts over my lifetime, and I plan on passing my knowledge on to anyone willing to learn. My future is very bright, and I thank God for how much He has taught me over the years!

Excel did a lot for me. It gave me the educational foundation I needed to succeed in life. Coming into Excel as a freshman, I was an insecure little guy who didn't think much of myself, but by the time I graduated I was a whole new person. I was confident in who I was and had discovered that I was actually really smart; I just needed to apply myself. One of the things that helped me the most was how the teachers always challenged me to do the best I could do. Thanks to Mrs. Krupa and all of the other amazing teachers, I've never met an essay in college that I couldn't dominate! I think it's safe to say that I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for Excel Christian School!
